Hellbender® Whitewater Systems enhance the performance of Dissolved Air Flotation Systems

Description

The HELLBENDER® White Water Skid uses a stream of clarified DAF effluent water under high pressure to dissolve air into a water solution. Air is introduced to the suction of the pump by an eductor loop, which uses a slip stream off the pump discharge to create a negative pressure zone in the eductor to draw in atmospheric air. The air then passes through the suction of the pump where it is sheared by the pump into small bubbles, compressed and dissolved into solution, and then exits the discharge of the pump. From the pump it travels to an Air Dissolving Pipe (ADP), which provides retention time for the air to completely dissolve into solution, as well as allows any undissolved air to vent off through an Air Release Valve (ARV). The air-water solution then exits the ADP and can be pipe to the DAF. Once it reaches the DAF, the whitewater solution is directed through a manifold of pressure regulating valves before exiting into the DAF. The pressure regulating valves will reduce the pressure of the solution, allowing the air to decompress and come out of solution in the form of micron sized air bubbles, attaching to solids as it floats to the surface of the DAF.

Features

Features

Hellbender® Whitewater Systems are available in 5 different sizes (60, 90, 150, 250, 400) based on DAF recycle flow rates (gpm) with a variety of standard options (304/316 SST piping, upgraded instrumentation packages, and controls). HELLBENDER® White Water Systems (WWS) are specially designed to enhance the performance of dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, which are used to remove solids, oils, and greases from water and wastewater. The HELLBENDER WWS is designed to either be a stand-alone system or to be retrofitted to an existing DAF previously fitted with an underperforming whitewater system. These systems can also be added to existing gravity settlers/skimmers to provide whitewater to aid in separation. The system is provided in a pre-engineered skidded design to minimize installation and start-up costs. They are fully tested at the factory and only requires simple utility connections (water inlet, water outlet, drains and power).

Each unit is mounted on a stainless-steel skid and frame and comes pre-piped, including an Air Dissolving Pipe (ADP) to minimize the accumulation of large air bubbles which are disruptive to the DAF process. The HELLBENDER WWS is fitted with the industry leading HELLBENDER® DAF pump which is specially designed to pump water with entrained air at high pressure (~100 psi) without cavitating. The HELLBENDER DAF pump efficiently shears incoming air into very fine bubbles, allowing large amounts of air to be entrained in the water for superior whitewater production. When the air-water solution is released into the incoming waste stream at atmospheric pressure, the air comes out of solution in the form of tiny bubbles in the 10-50 micron size range. The tiny bubbles attach to the oil, grease, and solid particles and float them to the surface to be removed.
