Ballasted Clarification

The fastest and most reliable settling floc systems available

Ballasted clarification dramatically increases biological treatment capacity, helping meet EA limits and produce effluent quality far superior than conventional alternatives, and at lower life-cycle costs. In particular, ballasted clarification is applied in Phosphorus removal applications where extremely low Phosphorus limits can be achieved without the need for further filtration treatment.

Ballasted clarification uses magnetite - fully inert iron ore particles - to ballast biological floc or conventional chemical floc, enhancing settling rates and increasing the performance of wastewater and water treatment facilities, while substantially reducing costs to upgrade process performance. The ability to handle a wide variation in flows and loads minimizes the risks of upsets.

Many of the applications for ballasted clarification are custom designed for specific applications. In many cases these applications are part of a retrofit solution for an existing plant to expand capacity and/or improve effluent quality.

Better Effluent Quality

BioMag and CoMag systems provide better effluent quality than conventional clarification and in many cases better effluent quality than filtration technologies. In particular very low Phosphorus (< 0.2 mg/l) can be achieved as a result of applying these technologies.

Reduce Footprint

BioMag® systems provide double the treatment capacity within the existing Activated Sludge Process (ASP)

Increase Treatment Capacity

CoMag® systems settle floc up to 10 times faster than conventional treatment
